Our Approach (The Life of ECM)

Successful ECM projects require a team that includes representation from the business and from Information Services working alongside Fastman, who provides expertise from both perspectives. Through the inevitable journey that is an ECM implementation, this team will need to consider and address several key aspects and issues:
  • Enterprise View: To ensure the system is able to cater for current and future business requirements, to avoid rework and provide real business benefit, each aspect of the system must be considered in relation to the enterprise. The business case should also cover the expected business benefits, the options considered, the expected costs of the project and the expected risks. From this information, the justification for the project is derived.
  • Organisational Change Management: The aim of the change management program is to assist people to move from where they are now to where they need to be. Having a strong and supported change management program in place from the start is characteristic of successful ECM programs.
  • Project Governance: Strong project governance and leadership is required to achieve desired outcomes, in terms of executing the program on time and within budget as well as ensuring the business is sufficiently engaged and the system meets the business requirements.
  • Business Engagement Model: A successful implementation hinges on business engagement throughout the project and a well-defined and executed model helps to set expectations as well as ensure uptake and acceptance.
  • Support: Positioning effective support models early in the implementation process is key to ensuring adequate resources are identified, engaged and appropriately trained prior to the system going live.

Our Methods

The Fastman Governance Model provides a framework around which Fastman manages client engagements, ensuring consistent quality of delivery and applying sound Business Assurance practices to those engagements. It is a pragmatic model addressing the needs of internal business management and client facing Project Management (scope, quality, cost management etc) within a single integrated model appropriate to an organisation of Fastman’s size and profile.
 
The Fastman Governance Model ensures that our engagements are executed by Fastman in a manner consistent with our company objectives. These are:
  • A reliable, quality driven and pragmatic service organisation based around technical expertise, well defined process, and a clear engagement model.
  • Medium to long term outcomes both for ourselves and our clients, balanced by the practical need to develop and maintain a strong balance sheet and a good return to our shareholders.
The FCS Governance Model consists of three main streams or functions, which apply to all phases of a project:
  • Project Management: This is a framework to manage client engagements, ensuring consistent quality of delivery and applying sound Business Assurance practices to those engagements. Fastman utilises the PRINCE2 Project Management methodology combined with our own Governance model which overlays PRINCE2 tailored with complimentary processes, tools and templates.
  • Business Assurance: Provides a common basis for the capture and sharing of key engagement measurements (risk, financial, client acceptance of deliverables and approvals) and peer quality or technical reviews.
  • Review Points or “Gates”: Provides a common point where Fastman and our clients sign-off and approve each phase of an engagement
